Among them former Captain Breffni Clarke, who wished new Captain Barry McDonnell all the best in his new role and hoped that Barry would continue where he left off and maintain the flow of silverware across the Severn Bridge into Wales.

On the night medals where handed out for the 2007 Gloucestershire League and Championship double as well as the 2006 Gloucestershire League. In addition several awards were presented, with the following deserving winners voted for by the players themselves.

A framed club jersey was also presented to John Paul Power, the man who single handed turned the clubs fortunes around from 2000 onwards and laid the bed rock for the current success that the team is enjoying.

Chairman Tommy Flaherty is his speech welcomed all present and congratulated the team on yet another successful year, noting that is was fantastic to have won the Championship back to back and have both the championship and league cups in Cardiff. He took time to praise the wives and girlfriends for their support of the players, as well as enduring the countless weeknights and weekends where the lads are out playing ball. He thanked the committee for their work behind the scenes; he thanked the players for the effort that they put in week in week out and the coach Declan McSorley for his hard work.

The evening also saw the official launch of the clubs new website www.cardiffgaa.org.uk. Jess Griffiths and Thomas Murtagh were thanked for their hard work in getting the website up and running and all agreed that this was a valuable asset to the club as a way of engaging with the community and recruiting new players.

Music on the night was provided by Andy and Alan, two club members who entertained throughout with renditions from Galway Girl to Jumbo Breakfast Roll. A great night was had by all and the club would like to thank Cardiff Rugby Club for a great evening and a fantastic meal.

Now that the celebrations are over and the medals for 2007 are put away for safe keeping the focus will return to the training field, in the quest to collect an equally laden bounty at next years dinner dance.

Those who attended the coaching course held by Gloucestershire County Board in Bristol last Sunday thought it was a worthwhile exercise, and that it developed skills that can be brought back to clubs for their betterment. On Sunday next the club will play in a 7 a side tournament in Bristol to be held in memory of St. Nicks club member Ann O’Loughlin. This tournament gives players the opportunity to stake their claim for a place in the Gloucestershire panel for the upcoming inter-county championship.
